Police in Lydenburg arrested two suspects aged 28 and 39 and seized a massive amount of illicit cigarette and other goods on Wednesday 08 August 2018. The police followed a tip-off from an informer about white Toyota Quantum delivering illicit cigarettes at White River Street no 18. Upon police arrival at the scene, they found a Toyota Quantum with registration no 741 KEP GP fitting the description of the combi they were told of. They packed at the gate and the combi came out of the yard on a high speed and bumped the police van next right door. They then sped off from the scene and the police gave chase. They were found at spitskop gravel road where it is alleged that they bumped the right-hand headlight of the police van and ran in the bushes on foot.
Members of the police followed them on foot and managed to arrest 38-year-old Manyadzi Mazarura from Mashonaland West province in Zimbabwe. There were loose cartons of Pacific blue fake cigarettes in the combi. The combi was towed to the station as we couldn’t find its keys. After a while, the detectives arrested 28-year-old Vincent Victor Machabaire from Uzumba Murewa Mashonaland East province in Zimbabwe. The third suspect is an Indian guy and he is still at large. After the two arrests police then moved to River Street no 18 with two suspects and an application for a search warrant was secured.
The following items were found in the garage, 93 boxes of pacific blue illicit cigarettes, each box containing 50 cartoons. Ninety-one sealed cartoons of pacific blue illicit cigarettes. Seventy-eight sealed boxes of 20 pacific blue illicit cigarettes. One Epson printer with serial no JRY6 086550, R59 920 MTN airtime still blank without prices and pin numbers, R 17 654 Cell C airtimes still blank without prices and pins, R19 460 Vodacom airtimes, R15 905 Vodacom R12, 00 airtime. Acornhoek Cluster commander Major General Diana Mashele applauded the members of the good work done and encouraged them to do more arrests. Speaking to Bushbuckridge News Acornhoek Cluster Communication Captain Mpho Nonyane, said the suspects appeared before the Lydenburg Magistrate court and were remanded to 2018-08-22 and they were denied bail.
