Drug dealer in court.

A 35-years-old alleged drug dealer recently appeared in the Bethal Magistrate’s Court after he was arrested on Tuesday by members of the Hawks Serious Organised Crime Investigation team together with Crime Intelligence. Chibuzo Chigozie Ogbunkwu ‘Don’ was arrested on charges of drug dealing and corruption.

The court added two charges of drug deaing, illegal immigration, resisting arrest and escaping from lawful custody; this after he ran away from the team during arrest. The arrested suspect is to face an additional charge of corruption after he offered members R50 000 for his freedom.

Don is believed to form part of a drug syndicate whose members were arrested during a disruptive operation on the 28th of June 2021 in the Bethal area. The initially arrested suspects remain in custody and are awaiting their bail application scheduled for Friday, the 30th of July 2021. He as remanded in custody and will be joining his fellow drug syndicate members for their bail application hearing.
