Former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, David Mathebula has returned to his roots in Limpopo as he searches for the next big soccer star among the youth of Giyani and the surrounding areas. He recently joined Tshakhuma FC as the team’s DStv Diski Challenge coach and also embarked on a journey around Limpopo scouting for young players for GladAfrica Championship and DStv Premiership teams.
Mathebula has joined forces with his business partner Nimrod Mbhalati to set up trials at professional clubs for the top talent in Limpopo. Mathebula said he always receive calls from people wanting him to set up trials for upcoming players in both the National First Division (NFD) and the Premier Soccer League (PSL), hence they are holding trials around Limpopo to select a team which will play friendlies against clubs in both the NFD and the PSL
According to Mbhalati, the project is coming on well despite the challenges of Covid-19 in achieving some of their objectives. He said Mathebula remains a true gentleman of the game and a great role model and has defied all odds to achieve his dream of playing professional football.
“His intention now is opening opportunities for the youngsters in Limpopo to realise their dreams in football. So far everything is coming well and we have managed to select a team. We are currently talking to a few teams in the NFD with a hope to play friendly games and allow the players to get exposure. We are grateful to a company like Hollywoodbets for supporting us.We still need more support because there are a lot of expenses in running this project,”
