Burgersfort-born lass, Mmathapelo Glad Malatji (16), is a semi-finalist in the Miss Teen Universe South Africa (MTUSA). The girl from Ga Selala village said that she is a rookie in the pageantry world, but she is hungry for accolades.
“MTUSA is my second pageant as I only joined the pageant industry in December 2020 when I competed in the Miss Burgersfort competition in which I was crowned a top-five finalist at first try,” she said.
She said the reason she chose to participate in this competition is to lead and inspire others.
“I decided to enter MTUSA for the sole reason that I would like to be able to lead and inspire other people. Through the MTUSA platform and the prestigious title I believe that I will be able to make a change in my community, to be a positive role model and be an inspiration to my peers, as well as every other individual of my community,” said Malatji.
The grade 11 pupil at Calvin College said apart from modelling she enjoys drawing.
“Being the imaginative, artistic and creative person that I am, I also enjoy art, particularly pencil sketching. I spend my time writing and researching more about my advocacy, which is mental health awareness,” she said.
Mmathapelo pleaded for support from the people of Limpopo. She said as part of her journey in MTUSA, she needs support with voting to help her secure a spot in the finale to represent Limpopo on the national stage.
She added, “To vote, one can deposit any amount of money from R30 into a Capitec account linked number: 082 483 0290 and also share a proof of payment using my name, Mmathapelo Glad Malatji, as reference. Your support would be highly appreciated.”
The announcement of the finalists is scheduled for next month. Voting closes on July 30. For more information, contact Mmathapelo on 079 148 0861.
