More than 1030 suspects arrested in Mpumalanga in a period of a week.

The relentless efforts by police to bring stability in the province has paid off as over 1030 suspects were arrested between 21 and 27 June 2021. According to a statement by the police, the suspects were arrested for a variety of violations including Contravention of the Disaster Management Regulations, murder, robberies, rape, stock theft, attempted murder, car hijacking, drug related offences, burglary business, burglary residential, assault with intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, theft of motor vehicles, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs as well as being in possession of suspected stolen goods.

It is said that more than ten suspects were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

“This unwavering collaboration between security forces has once again brought the desired outcome in an effort to ensure the safety of citizens as well as their property. These operations are continuous and no stone will be left unturned. The community is therefore urged to partner with police with the sole purpose to squeeze crime and its root causes for the benefit of the public,” said the police.

They said some of these suspects have already appeared before various courts across the province while others were slapped with hefty fines.

The management of police, led by the Mpumalanga SAPS Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thulani Phahla, is pleased with the success and has further urged the community to pledge their support to the police by reporting all criminal conduct.

“People who are involved in crime are not residing on another planet but are known within the circles. We therefore plead with all community members not to be economical with information that can assist police in their quest to combat crime, ” concluded General Phahla.
