Mr Twegga talk’s music

Pardon Makamu takes pride in singing in Xitsonga. Pardon is well-known for taking his music to the extremes by recording his music in his mother tongue. His music career started in 2012 when he met up with well-known Kwaito star Zola, and from there on, he has never looked back.

He is known for his hit single Twegga, released under Zola’s record label, Ghetto Ruff. He previously worked as Zola’s backing vocalist for four years until he decided to spread his wings and started recording under his own record label, Jamshack Records.

“My journey in music started when I met with Bonginkosi Dlamini AKA Zola. We met up as friends and I became a regular in his studio,” Makamu said. “One day he decided to allow me to record a song titled ‘Tana ka malume’ and the song was featured on his reality TV show Rolling With Zola which aired on eTV, from there on, he gave me free studio time to record a whole album because he was impressed with how I sing music in my mother’s tongue.” He continued.

Mr. Twegga, as affectionately known, told Bushbuckridge News that prior to meeting Zola, he had never imagined himself as a recording artist, “I never imagined myself doing music until the chance that was given to me. Ever since then, I’ve been involved in a lot of musical projects.”

His latest single, ‘Timhaka’ comes after a good reception of Nwana Mhani, where he featured Bruno (Bongani from Rhythm City) and the Mthulise hit-maker, Maliq. He has since shared stages with the likes of Mapaputsi, Pro Kid, and has worked with DJ Walker, DJ spelete, and many others.

He says he is doing music to inspire the youth; “My purpose is to motivate, build and show a way to the upcoming generation and make them believe that anything is possible if you believe in it. If people can see that there is someone who’s doing something that everyone is wishing and longing to do, and if the youth can see that it’s possible, and then they will know that they can use music as a weapon to educate.” Makamu emphasized.

“I’ll be releasing my EP next year January, but for now I am pushing my two singles ‘Ahikarhali’ and ‘Timhaka’ which will also be in the EP”, Concluded Makamu.
