Orlando Pirates has recently announced the signings of four new players, Goodman Mosele, Monnapule Saleng, Bandile Shandu and Kwanda Mngonyama. Pirates announced the signing of the quartet shortly after they had put out a press release stating they would make updates on their coaching and playing staff in due course.
The club have since confirmed the signings of the talented quartet of Mosele, Shandu, Saleng and Mngonyama. Pirates have long been touted as admirers of Mosele together with Arch rivals Kaizer Chiefs and have now got one over their Soweto neighbours with the capture of the National U23 star.
Early indications were that Baroka were hoping to ship Mosele off to a club abroad instead of selling him to a rival in the DStv Premiership but it now looks as if Pirates were able to convince the Limpopo-based club to part ways with one of their biggest assets and allow him to find home at the Orlando Stadium.
Maritzburg United’s Shandu emerged as a Pirates just last week and things quickly accelerated to the point that he was already being touted as a Buccaneer. Both he and his previous club then announced their parting of ways recently, a move many had interpreted as a formality ahead of an official announcement from Pirates.
Mngonyama himself is a former Maritzburg player and will join his former teammate at Pirates. Prior to signing for the Sea Robbers, Mngonyama had previously had “big club” experience at Mamelodi Sundowns before the former South African Junior international found home at Maritzburg where he quickly became a prominent member of their squad and a club stalwart.
Saleng is one that will fall under the radar out of the four perhaps, as he joins Pirates from Free State Stars. He, however, will also look to make the most out of this opportunity and show what he can do at the highest level. Saleng proved to be a thorn to the defence of many a GladAfrica Championship sides, finishing as the division’s top goal scorer last season despite only being an attacking midfielder.
A Pirates club statement read:
“The Mighty Buccaneers have bolstered the squad ahead of the 2021/22 season.
Orlando Pirates Football Club is pleased to announce the signing of Goodman Mosele, Monnapule Saleng, Bandile Shandu and Kwanda Mngonyama.
Mosele joins the Club from Baroka FC on a four-year deal. The former PSL Young Player of the Season will join the Club upon his return from national duty at the Tokyo Olympics.
Attacking midfielder Saleng, who finished the season as Top Goal Scorer in the GladAfrica Championship, has signed an initial three-year deal.
Meanwhile, Mngonyama and Shandu join as free agents on initial two-and three-year terms, respectively. Both players join having spent the 2020/21 season at Maritzburg United”
