Over the past few decades we have seen an emergence of many talented writers from Bushbuckridge, therefore it comes as no surprise that we now have yet another great writer and author of two published novels, titled; To The Leader in You and Marry Me Today, Leave Me Tomorrow. His name is Godfrey Malibe.
“I was born 40 years ago in Andover. I grew up and did my schooling in Buffelshoek until standard 10. I started writing opinion letters to different national newspapers and magazines when I was 13 years old and doing standard 3. My first letter was published by a Pretoria, now-defunct SANDF newspaper, The Warrior. Light Khanya followed.
From there I featured in a host of local magazines like Bona, Pace, Drum, Destiny Man, Move!, UP Beat and newspapers like Daily Sun, Sunday Sun, The Citizen and Sowetan.”
Godfrey says he was inspired by one fellow writer named Obed Makhubedu. He says his two novels were inspired by everyday life;
“Marry Me Today Leave Me Tomorrow was inspired by the many divorces that we see or hear about every day. So, I somehow tell my opinion on why so much divorce rate.
My message is that people should only get married when they’re ready. They should also not marry for the wrong reasons.(it is intended mostly to those who apsire to get married)
To The Leader In You was inspired by today’s life. It speaks to the youth and older people like our leaders. It addresses issues of teenage pregnancy, good parenting, morals, etc.
He also added; “My plea to the community of Bushbuckridge: arists, no matter in music or books rely on their local communities for support. Local government and business please support us. Schools as well, please use us to motivate the youngsters. parents, must also support their kids in their dreams. Don’t feel bad about buying your child a book as a birthday gift. You’ll be planting a good fruit.”
