SAFA gear up for new season

The South African Football Association (SAFA) Ehlanzeni Referees’ Development, held its first workshop in anticipation of the new football season ahead at the former Mapulaneng College in College View, Bushbuckridge.

According to the chairperson of Referees’ sub-committee, Tshililo Mugabi, the aim of the workshop was to engage with referees and to prepare for the new season ahead. “This is a refresher course for all our referees to stay up to date with the rules and regulations of the beautiful game,” Mugabi said.

The refresher course is held annually before a new season is launched. For the Mpumalanga province, it was held in three different regions. Except for the workshop held in Bushbuckridge, the other two were held in Mbombela and one other workshop in Nkomazi.

Different rules were explained during the workshop, including offside rules, free-kicks, bookable offenses and others. The referee’s equipment and signals were also demonstrated to 24 referees who were present.

“The workshop went well and the referees were actively participating in each and every deliberation. I was impressed by the way in which the referees engaged in the discussion. I want to thank the regional executive for supporting the workshop financially. I want also to thank the LFA executive more especially Mr. Nzima for giving us the support. Mr. Nzima attends each and every workshop that we have in the LFA,” Mugabi concluded.

The Kruger 1 & 2 streams in the Bohlabela region will kick off their season in September and Bushbuckridge News keep everyone posted of all the matches of  2018/19 season.
