Standerton residents go on service delivery strike
Residents of Sakhile township in Standerton, Mpumalanga marched to the Lekwa Municipality to
protest against service delivery yesterday. The residents are said to have handed over a
memorandum to municipal authorities in demand of water and sanitation, electricity and road
infrastructure. The residents have also alleged that some sections in the township have been
without water for the past two months, and they have demanded that the municipality should not
cut power internally over Eskom’s rolling blackouts.
“The municipality has not yet responded to our letters or even addressing us, that is why we have
decided to hand over the memorandum ourselves thinking that maybe today we shall get answers ”
said one community member.
