Two suspects (33) and (42) were recently arrested by members of Protea Coin Security on Wednesday the 13th of January 2021 at Clenco Mine, in Ogies. They were allegedly caught red handed stealing diesel from the pipelines.
It is alleged that an employee of Clenco Mine colluded with the diesel truck driver to steal the diesel from the pipelines using the tag of one of the mine tankers which was parked in the workshop. A preliminary probe by the Hawks` Serious Organised Crime Investigation team allegedly revealed that the owner of the truck is a person of interest in another diesel theft related case.
At the time of the arrest, 11425 litres of diesel, with an estimated value of about R142 000 was already pumped into the tanker. The suspects, Mxolisi Machaka (33) the mine employee and his accomplish Mandla Gumbo (42) the diesel truck driver, made their first appearance at the Ogies Magistrates Court and their case was postponed to 20 January for a formal bail application. They remained in custody and the investigation is continuing.
